I noticed the search function in the header is wonky.  If one clicks on the magnifying glass the menu converts to a deep green search box.  The functionality of the search is fine.  But, the deep green makes it difficult to see the search text.  I’ll attack this issue a bit later when I have more time.  There is a YouTube tutorial that shows how to replace this using a custom CSS solution.  Here is a link to the video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB9J23j8Aik

Much has been done.  But, a few items still need addressing.  I’m happy to soldier on.  Three of the five task items I need info from you folks.  I’ve made a summery here for folks to review.

    • Attempted logins by hackers.  Stabilized for now.  Just something I need to watch.
    • Backups:  Your hosting account does some basic backups.
    • New Header and Footer:  Done
  •       Need to change Strengthening Children and Families for Over 35 Years!  to Strengthening Children and Families in Maui County Since 1980!
  •       The Menu bar is a little below the header and looks like a separate box sitting on the header box rather than within the header DL
    • Home Page: Done for now.
    • About Page: Done for now.
    • Annual Reports: Done till 2023.
    • Partners Page: Partially done. Need Community Partners info and Funders info to complete.
    • Volunteer Page: Needs a new volunteer interest form. Give me words of the survey/form and I can make the form.
    • Remove any stock photos and replace with MFSS photos: I’ve not addressed yet. Basically, I don’t know which ones need to be replaced.
    •   there are currently no stock photos, all the photos are our own.  I just wanted to make sure we do  not add any stock photos with the changes DL
    • Social Media Content automatically added to MFSS site: Not done yet. Let me experiment with Ho’oikaika Partnership first.
    • Services Page: Not done yet
    •  We will be asking our supervisors to review their pages and send updates and updated photos  DL
    • Mobile and Tablet friendly: Last in process.
    • ADA compliant: Almost last in process. Partially there.
    • Event Calendar: Not needed at this point
    • Install SSL certificate: Not needed at this point.  PayPal handles it all.

Original Task List:  I’ve gone through and removed unused themes. Every time the WordPress Core files auto-update the system adds the latest theme file for that year.  And that has been happening for years.  Since you folks are using the Divi theme you don’t need these extra theme files. They just take up space and are potential code hackers can attack. I’ve updated all your plugins as well.  Your WordPress Core files are updated to the latest versions.  That will happen automatically from now on.  Same for the Divi theme files.

 

Your website was getting hundreds and thousands of attempted logins a day.  That is pretty normal.  Hackers have automated tools that troll through the entire Internet and try opening every site they come across.  You have a plugin called “Limit Login Attempts” installed.  I tweaked its settings to make it more difficult for the automated login attempts to happen.  Over the last few days these attempts have dramatically declined.

Days Later:  We’re now down to 10 or 20 attempts a day.  That is reasonable.
A Month Later:  We’re back up to 125 attempts a day.  Sigh, this is sadly normal.  I’ve tightened the “Limit Login Attempts” settings so they are even a bit tighter.  I’ll monitor this.

7.7 SOUNDS GOOD TY -DL

I don’t see any backups.  I’ve installed a plugin called Duplicator (one of the better free dup plugins) and am running that.  Later:  its not working.  The server throws a hissy. The free version of Duplicator has limits and we just ran into one is all.  I’ve deleted the Duplicator plugin.

I propose we do this the old fashoned way.  Give me access to your host.  The old old fashioned way is I take regular FTP or SSH backups of the WordPress files and take a snapshot of the site’s database.  The old fashioned way is most hosts have a way to take regularly scheduled backups.  That may add a small fee to your annual hosting costs.  But, its usually worth it.  If you give me host access I’ll go figure that out and report back and see what you folks want to do.

 

7.7 SENDING INFO VIA EMAIL – DL

 

1. Organize the HOME page so it does not look like separate boxes a. In such a way that the QCHK, EHS and Hale Hiipoi links are still very easy to find on the page.

Done on a private test page.  My plan is to make the boxes into slides that run in a slider.  ie: it displays one slide and the the items detailing it.  Than 5 to 7 seconds or so later the second slide comes into view.  The slides can be fiddled with so they are pretty.  Than we can add a section below the slider that talks about what MFSS does. The header and footer will be condensed and tightened up (Done and public).  I’ll set up a test front page to give you folks an idea before I swap the slider in.  You can find it here:

2. ABOUT MFSS page

a. Update “Our History” – It mentions about our 35th anniversary but we are on our 42nd year. Maybe just say ‘since 1980’ so that this does not need to be updated yearly.   Done

b. Leadership tab – Add Director of Early Childhood Education, Larae Balag’s bio; Project Director, Beth Osborn’s bio; Early Literacy Project Director, and Traci Robello’s bio.   Add border for each picture to make it uniform.  I need the bios and probably their portraits.  DONE

3. SERVICES page – all these will need a write up re done by their program supervisors, but the pages can be started on.

a. Outreach and Resource Specialists (OARS)

▪ Update funder – no longer DOH, add NHEP, OHA, DHHS-OCC

  b. Home Visiting Programs – Add Ho`owaiwai Kaiaulu Home Visiting c. Infant & Toddler Centers – Add EHS Waiale and Hale Hi`ipoi d.     Parenting Support Groups – Add Kamalamae. Youth Services – Add a photo above the program name – we will need an updated photo, maybe one from the programs recent intercession activity.

4. VOLUNTEER page – The Volunteer Interest Form says, ….could not locate your form.” Volunteer form submissions should be directed to our recruit@mfss.org email.    FOR NOW, I’ve removed text referring to that form on the volunteer page.  I’ll replace the form and text when I get this fixed.  Sadly, the form does not exist.  It probably accidently got deleted as it doesn’t show up in the Forms Plugin.  Inside the code calling the form to that page it was labeled form #1 and your forms start at #2.  Shoot me a copy of what the form should say and I can recreate it.  I’m familiar with Gravity Forms as I’ve used that specific plugin before

5. Link agency social media accounts to mfss page so that when they are updated, those updates appear on website. More important with Facebook as that is where most of our updates are.  I’m working on this specific solution with Hooikaika Partnership.  Once I get it solved there I will also set it up for you folks.

7. Ensure site is ADA compliant, with necessary information and tools for adjusting fonts etc.  I’m perhaps 30% done with this effort.  Your old text size widget was an two year abandoned plugin.  I found a new one that did the same thing and installed it.  It lives in your footer.   I need to get more of the tasks above done first.  Than I’ll run the entire site through a specialized website that checks for ADA compliance.
